RESOURCES

Background on Community Air Protection

  • In 2017, Assembly Bill 617 was signed into law, creating the Community Air Protection Program (CAPP) run by the California Air Resources Board (CARB).

  • CAPP empowers California's most polluted communities to monitor air quality and guide investments to reduce harmful emissions in toward improve public health outcomes.

  • There are 17 selected communities across the state, but hundreds more have been nominated by air districts and community members themselves. See the map.

  • After persistent advocacy by the Cleaner Air Partnership with state legislators, Capitol Staff and CARB Board Members, South Sacramento-Florin was designated by CARB as a formal AB 617 community
