In the summer of 2017, Governor Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 617. With this new policy the California Air Resources Board (CARB) established the Community Air Protection Program (CAPP) with the goal of addressing unhealthy air quality in communities historically burdened by environmental injustices. The community of South Sacramento was among the first 10 communities selected to take part in this first-of-its-kind program. 

 

Since its selection, community leaders of South Sacramento have organized and worked with the local air district to deploy an air monitoring program at the community scale. Through this exercise this group has identified hot spots of elevated unhealthy conditions, and have established methods to share this information with our South Sacramento neighbors. We hope that this process will help shape a more informed, healthier, and prosperous community.
